If you go to the Item Mall or Web Item Mall in Last Chaos, they have a vast list of stuff you can buy to upgrade with. You have to have money to buy "Aeria Points" or "ap" to but the item mall items. Even if you do not have money, it is good to look at the stuff, so you can see what is available and what each item does.
The reason to do this is that later on if you put in for free ap and save it, you will know what to buy. If you do get the free ap, save it. That way when you get enough you can buy a 2 for 1 package versus just buying stuff one by one. A double package can be worth 2 - 6 times more then buying each item(Last Chaos Gold) separately.
By looking in the mall you can see the cost ap of items and then figure out what the gold is worth for your server. Remember if you ever buy an item in the item mall, you can leave it in storage in the item mall storage now. You can also buy stuff and then send it as a gift to another member now.
